IVA originates from the Tilburg University and still keeps close ties with several faculties at and institutes related to the university. These include contacts with:
- ReflecT, the Research Institute for flexicurity, labour market dynamics and social cohesion at Tilburg University. ReflecT places the dynamics on the labour market and the protection of employees in a central position. Director is prof. dr. - Faculty of Social Sciences, Administrative and Organisational Sciences; Annually several Masters students follow a traineeship at IVA to get acquainted with the practical side of applied research.

University of Twente
On behalf of the Max Goote chair fund IVA senior researcher Loek Nieuwenhuis is a professor at the University of Twente occupying an endowed chair in Effectiveness of vocational education, adult education and lifelong learning.
AVANS University of applied sciences
In the area of security, cooperation is in place with this centre of expertise. In the centre of expertise security is built upon three levels: administrative andagogical, legally and socio-agogical.
